When painting or sealing an external wooden or steel door that is exposed to the elements, always endeavour to apply sealer or varnish to that inaccessible but most vulnerable area, the underside edge of door where water pools after running off the face of the door, due to wind driven rain, and is absorbed and swells or rusts causing the door to be replaced long before the lifespan of this unit is realized.

Do not remove door from the frame as on replacement same will not operate as previous, unless you can remove the pins from the hinges.  Alternatively, put some newspaper on the floor area and endeavour to apply sealer as best you can by using a soaked with sealer cloth and work the cloth to underside of door.
